About Us

What is PhunKiss? The word (Pronounced "Fun-Kiss"), is the combination of some of the letters of our names. We are Henri and Paula Kissel, and PhunKiss is our collaborative effort of creating artwork that is personal and meaningful and sometimes whimsical.

We both grew up in the Chicago area, and it was our common passion for making and creating that drew us together. While Henri specializes in metal and Paula in paint, there is no medium that is off limits. We especially like to repurpose old or discarded items, and come up with different ideas on what to do with them. Together we share an overwhelming love for creating art without boundaries. Even though we both maintain very busy schedules, we always try to find the time to satisfy our love of creating.

Our studio contains a mix of hand and power tools, easels, welding equipment, paints and brushes, and even a sand blaster. We both work together in the same shop, but we manage not to get in each other's way. Quite the contrary, our own unique creative talents energize one another, and we continually give each other great ideas and tips for our various projects.

In the ‘Our Work’ section, you will find a several pictures of our past projects and commissioned pieces. We have worked in such mediums as paint, fabric, metal, wood, glass, acrylic, and wax.
So much care and commitment goes into every one of our creations that we can’t help but fall in love with them. As a result, several of our non-commissioned pieces end up never leaving our home. For the ones that do, we get great satisfaction from seeing the pleasure they bring to others. Creating art is our passion, and the only thing better than creating it, is seeing the pleasure it brings to others.
